PIAZZA EDMONDO BERSELLI – CASTELNUOVO RANGONE (MO) – ITALY

The demolition of the former Cinema Verdi cleared a new area within the compact network of buildings that make up Castelnuovo Rangone town centre. This offered an important opportunity to create a new public space for the town: a piazza conceived as an “outdoor lounge”. The former Cinema Verdi area was designed as a large square raised above the adjacent lane, with the two connected by steps and by a ramp.
A tribute is paid to the cinema that once stood there in the paving of the piazza, with a pattern reminiscent of a roll of film. This pattern was created using the anti-slip porcelain tiles for outdoors from the LOIRE collection, in the two colours Avorio and Taupe, in the size 75×75 cm and with a thickness of 2 cm. The stairs and some of the benches were also made from the same material.
