Ventilated facades and thermal cladding

VENTILATED
FACADES

A CONSTRUCTION SYSTEM WITH A STRONG AESTHETIC IMPACT

The ventilated facade or ventilated wall is a type of advanced screen facade in which the cavity between the covering and the wall allows the air present to flow either naturally, thanks to the chimney effect, and/or in an artificially controlled way, depending on the seasonal and/or daily requirements, with the aim of improving overall thermal-energy performance.

Advantages and thermal performance of a ventilated facade:

  • energy saving thanks to thermal insulation;
  • hygrometric performance;
  • protection of the building from humidity and water infiltration.

THERMAL PERFORMANCE AND RETROFIT UPGRADES (REDEVELOPMENT)

The movement of the air in the cavity removes the accumulated heat deriving from solar radiation in the covering layer in summer, and improves the thermo-insulation of the wall during winter.

The use of ventilated walls allows for upgrading the building in terms of both energy and appearance, enhancing the architectural design.

THE FUNCTIONAL LAYERS OF A VENTILATED WALL:

  • perimeter wall or external cladding of the building;
  • regularization layer;
  • insulating layer;
  • ventilation layer;
  • anchoring substructure;
  • fixing devices;
  • external wall.

Our porcelain stoneware can be used with both visible and concealed anchorage systems. We carry out all the processes necessary on the slabs as indicated by the designer and further to request we carry out tests to verify the performance of the chosen system.

VISIBLE FIXING SYSTEM

The system, in aluminium alloy, is composed of brackets and vertical uprights, on which steel plates are assembled with coloured clips for fixing the slabs.

CONCEALED FIXING SYSTEM

The system, in aluminium alloy, is composed of brackets and T-shaped vertical uprights and horizontal rails, to which the slabs are secured by means of clips fixed carefully on the back of them.

THERMAL
CLADDING

INNOVATIVE EXTERNAL COVERS FOR IMPROVED LIVING COMFORT

Thermal cladding is an insulation system for the external walls of a building which is able to keep the temperatures of the perimeter walls at mild values and, therefore, to optimize the energy and thermal performance of the envelope throughout the year. The cladding generates an active thermal mass that positively affects the response of the building, significantly reducing thermal transmittance (heat dispersion).

ADVANTAGES AND THERMAL PERFORMANCE OF CLADDING INSULATION:

  • reduction of energy consumption and relative costs associated with heating/cooling;
  • important reduction of CO2 emissions into the environment;
  • protection from atmospheric agents;
  • improvement in the level of the building’s acoustic insulation.

THERMAL PERFORMANCE AND RETROFIT UPGRADES (REDEVELOPMENT)

In increasing the external insulation of the perimeter walls, the influx of heat (which in summer implies an intensive use of air-conditioners) falls significantly, while in winter, the walls protected externally by the cladding establish heat exchanges almost exclusively with the internal environment, reducing energy consumption for heating.

If used during restructuring work, a thermal cladding with finishing in porcelain stoneware ensures an overall enhancement of the building and contributes to redeveloping the urban landscape from an aesthetic and architectural point of view.

THE FUNCTIONAL LAYERS OF A THERMAL CLADDING WITH FINISHING IN
PORCELAIN STONEWARE

Cladding insulation is made up of a series of prefabricated building elements that are applied in succession directly on the external facade of the building: adhesive, insulation material, plastering, fiberglass mesh, plugs, adhesive, porcelain stoneware, sealant, grouting.

For the final covering, slabs with medium-light shades are preferable, that is, with a reflection index greater than 20%; the maximum format to be used could be 60×60 cm for materials with a thickness of 1 cm, or 120×120 cm for materials with 6 mm thickness. Applications for maximum heights of 20m are currently authorised.

OUR NATURAL FULL-MASS PORCELAIN STONEWARE IS PARTICULARLY SUITABLE FOR USE AS AN EXTERNAL WALL IN A VENTILATED FACADE AND WITH THERMAL CLADDING THANKS TO THE FOLLOWING CHARACTERISTICS:

  • frost-proof
  • high mechanical resistance to stresses due to the force of the wind, both in pressure and in depression;
  • fire-proof;
  • resistance of the colours to sunlight;
  • watertight (long-lasting protection of the underlying layers);
  • high resistance to chemical aggression (smog, acid rain, etc.);
  • alta resistenza all’aggressione chimica (smog, piogge acide, ecc.);
  • law weight/covered area ratio;
  • low thermal conductivity, therefore good thermal insulation capacity;
  • high resistance to wear;
  • easily cleaned;
  • large variety of solutions for customizing the look of buildings;
  • low water absorption;
  • high resistance to thermal shock.
