SUPPORTING SOCIAL COHESION AND EDUCATION IN OUR LOCAL AREA AND BEYOND OUR BORDERS

A CONTRIBUTION FOR THE THIENE SOLIDARITY HOUSE

In 2021, Coem sponsored the initiative of the “Lions Club Thiene Colleoni” in creating new spaces inside the Casa della Solidarietà (Solidarity House) in Thiene, Vicenza, a sheltered facility housing women and children in difficult situations.

The primary objective was to create a beautiful and safe environment, dedicated to play and study, where children can breathe joy and tranquillity.

MORE WELCOMING INTERIORS IN THE ‘SAN PIETRO PESCATORE' COMMUNITY IN AFRICA

Help for children and families in Sierra Leone was made possible by joining an international development cooperation project in Sierra Leone in 2021 through H.E. Charles Edward Tamba, Archbishop of Freetown. Coem contributed to the completion of a series of building works involving the construction of a new school, reception area and church for the Community of ‘San Pietro Pescatore’ (Tombo), enabling these people to meet in more suitable, welcoming and healthy environments.

WOOD-EFFECT PORCELAIN STONEWARE TO REFURBISH THE SPACES OF THE JANUA COELI MONASTERY

The Monastery of the Carmelite nuns in Cerreto di Sorano, Grosseto, bears the Marian title of “Janua Coeli”, i.e. “Gate of Heaven”, and those who arrive here find a place of welcome and prayer in which to retreat for a few days, in an atmosphere of peace and recollection. Set in a fascinating natural environment, the Monastery is structured in various spaces for hospitality and sharing, some of which have been repaved with wood-effect ceramic surfaces, in perfect harmony with the building’s historical and natural context.

NEW FLOORING FOR THE HEADQUARTERS OF THE VOLUNTARY ASSOCIATION APEA

Coem supports APEA (Pontestura Association of Ecology and Art) a voluntary organisation in Pontestura, Alessandria, by supplying ceramic tiles for the redevelopment of an old portico overlooking the community garden. This space, historically known as ‘The Garden of Eternity’, is a meeting point for the local population and is regularly visited by the village’s schools and families as it also offers a playground for children. The project to renovate the building adjacent to the garden made it possible to extend the area with suitable flooring, keeping it sheltered from the weather, so that it can be used for meetings, outdoor educational activities, play workshops for children and for many other activities carried out by the Association.

SPORT AND INCLUSION

In May 2023, Coem lent its support to the Sport Insieme Association of Castellarano for the Castellarano Special Cup five-a-side football tournament, in which 10 teams of special athletes took part. The two-day inclusive event promoted a passion for sport and companionship.

HELPING OUR LOCAL AREA

In 2023, thanks to its collaboration with the local public administration, Coem contributed to the repair of part of the municipal road surface in the Castellarano area.

SPORT AND EXERCISE TO AID DEVELOPMENT

Coem lent its support to the activities of Idea Volley Sassuolo, a female sports club, in the 6 to 18 age range: this is because it believes sport is a key element in physical and emotional development, as well as an important opportunity for social interaction that actively contributes to personality development and a positive approach to competition.

FOSTERING AND EXPANDING SOCIAL INCLUSION

Our collaboration with Anffas, the national association of families and people with intellectual disabilities and neurodevelopmental disorders, also continued in 2023.
ANFFAS works towards the creation of a world in which the rights of these people and their families are fully guaranteed and respected; a world in which disabilities are no longer seen as a limit or an obstacle, but rather as a source of growth and enrichment.
The Association endeavours to enhance the abilities of people with disabilities, with a view to social inclusion, driven by the conviction that the Italian system of services to citizens offers an irreplaceable – although not exclusive – source of support for these people and their families.
